For a long time psionics struggled with problems of their spells being reflected back to them and hitting them hard. They thought of many ways how to deal with it, e.g. psychic mirror, but none of them was good enough. One of those ways is psychic protection. When psionic enables his psychic protection, he is significantly more resistant to effects of his own spells when they got reflected by opponent\'s mirroring spell (psychic mirror or divine protection). The better knowledge of psychic mirror the more damage from the spell is prevented. When psychic protection is activated against incoming reflected mental attack, is eats up some mana, depending on casting cost of the spell. Because psychic protection requires mana to work, it can be dangerous for careless psionics, as if psychic protection is triggered when psionic doesn\'t have mana required to support it, his mind cannot withstand the stress and instead of reducing incoming damage, psionic gets hurt even more than usual. To successfully trigger psychic protection without risk, one must have at least half as much mana as is base casting cost of the incoming spell. Psychic protection itself usually drains less mana than half of base casting cost, but successfull triggering requires half casting cost.
