Force Magic Specialization

Force magic specialization emphasizes working with magic in the form of physical forces. Without this specialization, sorcerers are able to employ their magic only in the form of brute force, without much sophistication, thus allowing only crushing attacks. Masters of force magic can shape their magic into a lot more interesting forms, allowing them to hit their enemies more effectively and ultimately even shape the force into edged or pointed attacks. Just a knowledge of force magic specialization allows one to cast crush spells more effectively, decreasing the manacost of such spells by 2%.

Knocking Force

By increasing manacost of your spells by 7% you can increase the impact force of your crush spells so that on impact they can knock tdown he victim to the ground. The base chance of knocking down the victim is 40% for common creatures, but most powerful creatures are resistant to bashing effects, so for them the chance is greatly reduced. Actually it is necessary to know few upgrades to this castmode to make the bashing chance nonzero for most bash-resistant victims. This castmode modifies all spells which are based on crushing effect, no matter how they are further shaped by other techniques of Force Magic branch.

Equip Shielding

Some creatures, especially sorcerers, are known for their hobby of scrapping player's equipment. It is possible to prevent scrapping with indestructibility spell but it requires too much mana to protect all items, especially for larger groups. With the mastery of force shaping it is possible to project multiple indestructibility auras at once, effectively shielding all items equipped by target character at once.

Dependencies: advanced force shaping

Spiked Force

This castmode modifies crush-based spells so that the force is shaped into a spike instead of a simple burst of energy, thus causing partially piercing damage instead of crush only. Basic level of spiked force castmode diverts 5% of the crushing damage to pierce. The damage type modification occurs after the damage potential of the spell is determined, so the skills which increase crushing power of spells mostly apply even to this modified damage. While active, this castmode increases manacost of all your spells by 5%. Spiked force can be used in addition to Force Lance skill, allowing to redirect more damage into pierce for lesser cost than with Force Lance alone. Also in combination with edged force castmode it is possible to create multiresist spells but usefulness of such weirdly shaped spells is widely disputed.

Edged Force

Edged force castmode modifies force-based spells so that the force is shaped into an edge instead of a simple burst of energy, converting part of the damage into a slashing form. Basic level of edged force castmode diverts 5% of the damage potential from crushing to slashing form. Further upgrades increase the ratio converted. The damage type modification is applied after the damage potential of the spell is determined, so the skills and castmodes which modify amount of crushing damage also modify the converted damage. While active, this castmode increases manacost of all your spells by 5% but modifies only those based on force. Edged force conversion is applied after conversions to piercing form, allowing to create multiresist spells but usefulness of such specially crafted spells is usually not very great. Edged force can be used in combination with Force Halberd when you do not know the final upgrade for Force Halberd to convert more of the crushing damage into slashing form than it is possible with edged force or force halberd alone.

Force Blast

Damage: (level)d150 This spell creates a powerfull blast of force magic which crushes the victim with incredible force. Force Nova

Damage: (level)d200 Force nova creates an incredibly powerful burst of crushing power exploding from the user, damaging all creatures in the room with great potential. Force nova is too subject to shape modification via edged force and spiked force castmodes and similar effects, making force magic users widely feared among creatures who usually do not need to fear sorcerers for their resistance setup. Dealing levelD200 damage to slash via force nova with force halberd modification is not something usually expected by most creatures, right?

Bouncing Shell

Bouncing shell spell has similar effect as magic mirror, only that bouncing shell works only against spell which have a crush component. No matter how the spell acquires this crush component, as long as it has the crush component, it can be reflected back to the source. This limitation makes the shell more effective than magic mirror. Furthermore, bouncing shell is cumulative with magic mirror, so if magic mirror lets the spell through, bouncing shell can still reflect it and vice versa. Of course this applies not only to magic mirror but to all other mirroring effects.

Force magic specialists can control the energy in such a way as to prevent some of the problems chaos blast can cause. If there is a firewall in an exit, force magic specialist can direct his magic to deny the firewall a space it needs to burn and extinguish it with a powerful gust of air propelled by a modified force blast spell.

Batterring Crush

It has caused many a raised eyebrow when adept sorcerer learned powerblast and it was not possible to use it to crush away a pesky door standing in the way. The reasons for this inability are many but with good enough knowledge of force magic, all those reasons can be overcome. This spell is actually modified force blast, as powerblast is too limited. Nevertheless, batterring crush can easily open passage through doors impassable by other casters. Still, as this spell relies on crushing force, it cannot help where fighter would remain stuck as well.

Force Lance

Force lance builds on spiked force castmode. The castmode is limited in the amount of damage it can convert into piercing damage, so force lance allows thorough modification of the spell from the ground up. To use force lance, simply specify how much of the crush part of the spell should be used to form a Force Lance part, and all your further crush spells will have this amount of damage redirected into piercing form. The basic level of force lance allows you to convert up to 20% of the crushing force into piercing form. Each upgrade increases the amount convertible, as follows: improved force lance: forcelance 40 extended force lance: forcelance 60 enhanced force lance: forcelance 80 advanced force lance: forcelance 100 Of course knowing advanced force lance doesn't prevent you from redirecting less than 100%, you can still redirect let's say only 10% if you wish. Activating force lance increases manacost of all your spells by 10%, so it is usually cheaper to use only spiked force castmode for redirections under 30%. On the other hand, enabling both spiked force and force lance for 20% (with command "forcelance 20") when you don't know the upgrades still allow you to convert nearly 44% of crushing damage into piercing form, a ratio available only after learning extended force lance, if you don't want to use spiked force too.

Resonating Charge

When sorcerer casts a force spell, if the spell was cast via force charge, the force charge doesn't disappear right away but resonates for a moment. When she casts a new force charge while the previous one is still resonating, the new charge is 2% more powerful. The resonating charge lasts for a short while so it is good idea to convert it to full force charge sooner rather than later. Also, each force spell cast without force charge disrupts the resonance (including spells from quickcast).

Explosive Force

The sorcerer has realized that the knocking effect of Force Nova with Knocking Force castmode can be used for much more efficient crowd control. With Explosive Force the sorcerer can make the knocking effect so powerful that it can literally push enemies away (it only works together with Knocking Force). The push effect works only on those who are following someone or those with no followers, and only those not bound to a specific place (in the sense that they don't move from that place, the spell can break many types of effects that would try to keep someone in place if they don't belong there). The chance is based on sorcerer's level and level of the enemy it is pushing away. Explosive force increases manacost of force nova spell by 50%.

Resonating Force

The sorcerer can shape the force magic in various ways but it only made sense to shape the force in one specific way, i.e. make it as much spiked as possible or as much edged as possible but there was no point doing anything fancy. This was bothering force sorcerers for a long time and eventually it was discovered that it indeed makes sense to shape the force in various fancy ways. When a spell is powered up with force charge, it is possible to induce a resonance between the different force components to make the spell more powerful. This resonating force powers up the spell based on the resonance between the three types of force in the spell. The resonance is strongest when all three components deal the same amount of damage. In such case the damage grows by 2.5x. If there are only two components but in full resonance then the damage is doubled. The boost is based on the relative differences of the components, the less difference the higher boost. When using force lance and force halberd for the resonance it is imperative to remember that the spell is first modified with force lance and only the rest is modified with force halberd. This means that setting force lance to 33% and force halberd also to 33% doesn't cause equal parts to pierce, slash and crush but first a third is redirected to pierce and then the third of the rest, which is now only two thirds of original, goes to slash. So the right way to get equal distribution is force lance 33% and force halberd 50% (to split the remainder in two equal parts). With forceshape command one can set the pierce and slash components immediately without worrying about lance and halberd. But keep in mind that forceshape doesn't take spiked force and edged force castmodes into account, it only sets force lance and force halberds factors to reach required ratios, assuming neither of the aforementioned castmodes is active. After all, the fine-tunning required for resonating force is hard to do with such blutn instruments as spiked and edged force.

Resonation Feedback

Getting to the right force shape for maximum boost of resonating force requires either prior knowledge of the enemy, or fast reflexes and full focus. The first is often unavailable and the second is hard to do while bleeding profusely or jumping around trying to dodge blows that would convert the sorcerer into a bloody splatter. Enter resonation feedback. With this skill the sorcerer can subconsciously modify the force shape based on the feel of the force spell landing on the enemy. As the force spell lands, the sorcerer notices the telltale signs of the effects of each component of the force spell and slightly updates the shape for better resonance just before it lands. While the castmode is active the sorcerer's subconscious mind keeps making tiny tweaks to the spells even when there is a perfect resonance which may cause the resonance to temporarily weaken. One solution is to turn off the castmode once perfect resonance is achieved, or just cast another spell to tweak the force shape back to perfection. Keep in mind that the resonance depends on current resists of the enemy so if they cast spellup on themselves or your group afflicts the enemy with some resist-affecting negative enchants, the sweet spot would move and resonation feedback will kick in to reshape the force spells to match.
